FROM THE PASTOR

Welcome is what we do! We welcome people to our church for worship, recovery, meals and weddings. It is important that we have a safe home to welcome our friends and neighbors to. In an effort to do some much needed improvements, we are launching the Home Improvement Campaign. This involves 2 efforts.  First, we need your help raising funds for 2 vital projects to improve our home. The wood front doors need new locks and safety mechanisms. The Sunday school floor needs a new air conditioner that cools the chapel, the Worship and Wonder room and the men’s and women’s classrooms. We need to raise $15,000 for these improvements. We are asking for your special giving to this Home Improvement Fund. You can write in the memo of your check or online gift “Home Improvement.”  Second, we will be publishing a list of Home Improvement projects of some property work that needs done. These projects will vary for any skill level up to tool master. You will be able to sign up for a project for you to complete at your availability. Due to COVID, we thought it best to not have a work day and allow volunteers to work when best suitable to their availability. Look for that list next week.  Thank you for your generous sharing of God’s abundant grace through your gifts.

FAITH IN ACTION TOGETHER (F.I.A.T)

The Faith in Action Together team met for the first time last month. It is not too late to join the team! If you are interested in being a part of the ministries that will move us into justice work, join the FIAT team. We are looking for people who are interested in any or all of this work to join us virtually on the 4 th  Wednesday of every month beginning in September at 7 pm to help us move forward together. If you have questions, please contact Joe Gallenstein or Pastor Tracy.

WELCOMING AFGHAN REFUGEES

Thank you to everyone who contributed to the homegoods collection for refugee resettlement. We raised approximately $450. We were able to purchase 1 kitchen basket, 1 bathroom basket and 4 bedding baskets. What a way to welcome our new neighbors! Greater Cincinnati and Northern Kentucky are expecting 150 individuals. The Northern Kentucky refugee resettlement organizer is looking for welcome team volunteers that will welcome a family by helping greet them, getting settled and getting acclimated to their new home. If you are interested in volunteering, please see Pastor Tracy. She has been in contact with the organization to learn about upcoming opportunities to participate in refugee resettlement.

PANORAMA FOOD PANTRY / PIE THE PASTOR ++

You’ve exceeded the goal!!! I challenged the church to donate 1200 items to the food pantry for Panorama apartments – the final count is 3000! Because you have met and exceeded the goal, Hilde, Richard and I will take cream pies in the face this Sunday! We’ll have a FB live video of the event!

FREE MENTAL HEALTH TEST

FCC, in partnership with Mental Health America, is promoting free mental health check-ins. See the banner on the back rail for the QR code to access the test online. In just a couple weeks, 48 people scanned the QR code to check in on their mental health.

BOOK LAUNCH

Pastor Tracy’s dear dear friend, Ryan Joseph Allen, co-founder of Love Must Win and an instrumental leader in the GLAST recovery group, launched a new book this week called My Drug Dealer Brought Me to God. This memoir helps explore and create community conversations around the intersections of the LGBTQ+, mental health, faith, and addiction/recovery communities.  In just one day, Ryan’s book rose to a #1 Amazon bestseller. He will be doing a book launch tour at the church on October 16 th at 7:00 pm. You want to come! Ryan is the embodiment of love and inclusion.

UPCOMING SERMON

As we continue our sermon series on Rooted and Established in Love visualized in trees, we are coming upon a day on which we will celebrate family.  On October 24th, we will create a family tree.  Please bring a picture that you would like to add to the tree.  You can include a picture of you, your family, a loved one who has passed or anyone you’d like to share.  If you want help printing or copying a picture, please contact Pastor Tracy or Lori – we’d be happy to help.
