FROM THE PASTOR

PENTECOST is this Sunday!  It’s a great day for us to begin hybrid worship, birthing a new ministry, on the day we celebrate the birth of the church.  Here are a couple things to expect:

  • Masks will not be required.  Following CDC advice, fully vaccinated folx do not need to wear a mask indoors.  Children and unvaccinated adults are encouraged to wear a mask.  Regardless of your vaccination status, you are welcome to wear a mask.
  • We will begin singing as a congregation.  Now is probably not the time to begin singing with full gusto, but how we normally sing will be allowed.
  • You may pick up communion and an order of worship as you enter the sanctuary.
  • You may place your offering in the tray at the entrance of the sanctuary or you may give online through the website or the Givelify app.
  • Wear red, orange or yellow to celebrate the Spirit.

The Disciples Women of Kentucky missed Spring Conferences in 2020, but this year they are making plans for an online conference. Maryilyn Williams from North Carolina will join us as the preacher for the day.

An opportunity for Disciples to connect, learn, worship, and imagine new ways of gathering as church.

Regular registration starts at $25, which includes access to all sessions and workshops, as well as the virtual exhibit hall. Be the New Church

For the past thirteen months, many of us have stayed away from our places of worship to keep ourselves and our faith communities safe.

How have new church leaders responded? By spreading the word about Disciples through DoorDash, meeting with folks struggling with anxiety on Zoom, and addressing returning citizens’ needs.

Chaplains, pastors, and others have answered the call to be the new church.

To support them, contribute to the Pentecost Offering on May 16 and 23. Half of the gifts go to regions to support new church development. The other half goes to New Church Ministry, which trains, equips, assists, and multiplies new church leaders.

Let’s all be the new church, together.

FIRST CHRISTIAN CHURCH LITTLE LIBRARY

The little library is installed!  The little library ministry allows people to come take a book for free.  If you have used books that are in good condition, please bring them to the church so that we can put them in our library.  You can make plans with Lori to drop them off at the office or bring them to church on Sundays.  I would love it if we could include some Bibles too.  Please consider purchasing a Bible to be placed in the library to help spread the word of God through this ministry.

Thank you to Doug, Alex, Joe, Lettie, Jim and Tim for your contributions to the project.

** for all Zoom meetings, contact the office to get participation info. **

THERMOSTATS

The thermostats in the sanctuary, Arnold House and fellowship hall are programmable thermostats.  They are pre-set to be a comfortable temperature when we are regularly here.  If you would like to change the temperature while you are here outside of the program, please feel free to do so, but DO NOT press the hold button.  When you change the temperature, it will automatically cycle back to the program at the next timed change.  If you press the hold button, it will hold that temperature until someone manually turns off the hold.  This means that the space could be held at cool for a couple days or a week.  If you need a permanent change to the program, please let Pastor Tracy know.
